BPT — Physiotherapy
Qualify as a physiotherapist in India’s fast-growing rehab and wellness sector — clinical and hands-on.
Course overview
BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) is a 4-year clinical degree plus internship that trains graduates to assess and treat movement, pain and rehabilitation needs through exercise, manual therapy and electrotherapy. Demand is rising with India’s ageing population, sports culture and lifestyle disorders, though the profession is still consolidating its regulatory and pay structures.
Is BPT — Physiotherapy right for you?
✅ Choose it if you…
are hands-on and interested in anatomy, sport, rehab and direct patient recovery, and value autonomy and clinic-ownership potential.
⚠️ Reconsider if you…
you seek the pay or prestige of MBBS, or you dislike physically demanding, repetitive hands-on therapy.

Scope & future
BPT is a clinically autonomous allied-health profession with strong demand tailwinds and clear entrepreneurial paths, best suited to those willing to specialise via MPT, build a practice or work abroad rather than rely on modest salaried roles.
📈 Physiotherapy demand is genuinely growing — driven by ageing, sports and lifestyle disease — and clinic ownership offers real upside; the honest reality is that salaried entry pay is modest and the profession is still maturing, so earnings reward those who specialise or build independent practice.

Frequently asked questions
What is the eligibility for BPT?
You need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and usually a minimum 50% aggregate (40% for reserved categories). Candidates must generally be 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year. Verify exact cut-offs with the college.
Is NEET required for BPT admission?
For AY 2026-27, most BPT admissions are on 10+2 merit and NEET is not mandatory, though some states or colleges use NEET or a state CET. NEET is set to become mandatory from AY 2027-28. Confirm the current rule with official counselling.
How long is the BPT course?
BPT is typically 4.5 years, comprising 4 years of academic study followed by a compulsory 6-month clinical internship. The internship is required before you can practise, so the full duration cannot be shortened.
What are the fees for BPT?
Fees range widely by college. Some government colleges charge as little as around ₹20,000 a year, while private colleges are considerably higher across the full programme. Check the exact fee and any hostel or internship costs with the institution.
What is the scope after BPT?
Graduates work in hospitals, orthopaedic and neuro-rehab centres, sports physiotherapy, and private clinics, with some practising abroad after meeting local licensing. Many go on to MPT for specialisation. Outcomes depend on skills and experience, not the degree alone.
Is BPT the same as an MBBS or a doctor degree?
No. BPT is a physiotherapy degree, not a medical (MBBS) degree, and physiotherapists are not the same as MBBS doctors. Some states permit BPT graduates to use the 'Dr' prefix in a limited way; check your state council's rules.
