What this field is

This field covers how clean energy is actually produced, stored, moved and paid for — solar photovoltaics, wind, batteries and storage, hydrogen production by electrolysis, fuel cells and grid integration. Coursework is engineering-led: thermodynamics, electrochemistry, power systems and materials, then energy-systems modelling and techno-economic analysis. Most Indian offerings are postgraduate (M.Tech / M.E.), with a small number of dedicated undergraduate energy engineering degrees.

India launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission on 4 January 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore and a target of 5 MMT per annum of green hydrogen production capacity. Within that, MNRE allocates ₹17,490 crore to the SIGHT programme for electrolyser manufacturing and hydrogen production incentives, and ₹400 crore to R&D.
